Sanjrani Clan Sweeps Local Bodies Elections in Chagai District

Abdul Wadood Sanjrani, the cousin of Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, has secured a significant victory in the Chairman elections for the District Council Chagai, further consolidating the Sanjrani family's political dominance in the district. With a resolute show of support, Abdul Wadood triumphed by securing 17 votes, defeating his rival candidate, Ghulam Muhiddin, who managed to gather 14 votes with the backing of a trio alliance known as Baba-i-Chagai Panel led by Sakhi Amanullah Notezai, Al-Fateh Panel led by Mir Muhammad Arif Muhammad Hasni and his own Awami Ittehad Panel .

In another notable development, Asfandyar Yar Mohammadzai, who earlier a day from the polls joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) by resigning from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), emerged as the Vice Chairman for the District Council Chagai by attaining 18 votes. Sher Jan Kashani, representing the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), secured 15 votes but fell short in the contest.

The election witnessed active participation from 33 out of 34 members of the District Council Chagai. However, UC Chairman Padagi Shujaat Hussain, aligned with the trio alliance, was barred from voting by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following a Supreme Court of Pakistan's decision.

Within the PPP, internal divisions arose as the party split into two factions, with one led by Sardar Muhammad Umar Gorgaij, who joined forces with Sadiq Sanjrani's younger brother, Ejaz Sanjrani. While another group is led by Mir Muhammad Arif Muhammad Hasni who joined hands with JUI-F's Sakhi Amanullah Notezai and Awami Ittehad Panel.

In response to the election outcome, Mir Muhammad Arif Muhammad Hasni, the sitting Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA), took to Twitter, expressing concerns about alleged irregularities in the electoral process. Hasni claimed that the oath-taking ceremony was delayed and that one of their members was prevented from casting a vote. Furthermore, he highlighted the delayed fate of two members from the opposing group, suggesting possible election manipulation. Hasni urged the Supreme Court to intervene and conduct an inquiry into the matter.

The Sanjrani family's growing influence in Chagai's political arena has dealt a blow to prominent figures such as sitting MPA Mir Arif Muhammad Hasni and Sakhi Amanullah Notezai, the former Provincial Minister. Analysts speculate that the Sanjranis' triumph in the District Council Chagai could pave the way for further electoral success in the upcoming general elections.

As the local bodies' election concludes in the District Council Chagai, the Sanjrani family solidifies their power base, signaling a significant shift in the district's political landscape.
