RDMC and IHHN Collaborate to Launch Indus Mobile Health Clinic in Nokkundi

Nokkundi, Balochistan - September 27, 2023: In a collaboration between the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) and the Indus Hospital & Healthcare Network (IHHN), the district of Chagai received its very first Indus Mobile Health Clinic. According to a press release issued by RDMC, the IHHN donated this Mobile Clinic to the district, providing critical healthcare services for a provisional period of three months while the RDMC-backed Indus Hospital in Nokkundi is under construction. This strategic move guarantees immediate access to basic healthcare, bridging the gap until permanent healthcare infrastructure is established.

The inauguration of the Indus Hospital Mobile Clinic, led by the RDMC Country Head and members of the Community Development Committee (CDC), heralds a significant development for healthcare accessibility in Nokkundi and the surrounding areas. The Mobile Clinic will be stationed at six identified locations across Nokkundi, ensuring enhanced access to healthcare services for local residents.

This innovative Mobile Medical Unit, housed within a state-of-the-art bus and managed by the Indus Hospital, promises to bring high-quality healthcare services to the doorstep of the community. The IHHN, a reputable charity hospital network in Pakistan, is renowned for its commitment to delivering top-tier healthcare services in both urban and rural settings. Beyond primary healthcare provided by a dedicated team of doctors and community workers, the Mobile Medical Unit also incorporates a fully equipped lab and pharmacy, complete with essential medical supplies. Ali Ehsan Rind, the Country Manager of RDMC, expressed the significance of this initiative, stating, "This mobile clinic will provide much-needed healthcare to the local communities in and around Nokkundi temporarily until we can set up the Indus Hospital facility at Nokkundi. Once the Nokkundi hospital is up and running, it will replace the mobile clinic and locals will have a permanent medical facility to serve them in the area."

Crucially, this project enjoys the support and endorsement of the local Community Development Committee (CDC), comprising community representatives empowered to guide RDMC's investments. Their focus on need-based projects and consideration of the local community's requirements underscores the importance of community involvement.

The Indus Mobile Health Clinic represents the second healthcare initiative spearheaded by RDMC in the region, following the recent inauguration of the Community Health Center in Humai village, another successful collaboration with the IHHN and funded by RDMC. Additionally, two primary schools in Humai and Mashki Chah villages and access to potable water through a water treatment plant in Humai village have been established, serving the local population. These initiatives form part of RDMC's comprehensive social development program in the district, a commitment made following the signing of the new Reko Diq agreement in late 2022.
