Reko Diq Mining Company Joins Forces with Indus Hospital to Bring Healthcare to Humai Village

Humai Village, Chagai District, Balochistan, 22 September 2023:** In a significant move toward community development and welfare, the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) has partnered with the esteemed Indus Hospital & Healthcare Network (IHHN) to inaugurate its maiden healthcare initiative in Chagai District.

The newly established Community Health Center, situated in Humai, the closest neighboring community to Reko Diq, was officially opened by Ali Ehsan Rind, the Country Head for RDMC, alongside representatives from the Par-e-Koh Community Development Committee (CDC). This committee comprises local community members, ensuring that all social investment projects undertaken by the company align with the needs and priorities of the residents. The Humai healthcare project itself was proposed and endorsed by the Par-e-Koh CDC, which represents stakeholders from neighboring villages like Humai, Mashki Chah, Nok Chah, and Durban Chah.

The Humai Community Health Center is equipped to provide primary healthcare services, staffed by two dedicated doctors, one male and one female, as well as paramedics and pharmacy personnel. As part of its commitment to the local community, RDMC has already established a primary school for local children and a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant to ensure access to clean drinking water. These initiatives are part of RDMC's expanding social development project portfolio, with plans to extend such services to other areas within the district.

This collaboration between RDMC and the IHHN marks the beginning of multiple healthcare projects aimed at granting local communities access to high-quality healthcare services. RDMC's objective is to create sustainable social development projects that serve the well-being of local residents. The establishment of the Humai Healthcare Center exemplifies the commitment to ensuring that the benefits from the Reko Diq project start benefiting the people of Chagai long before commercial operations commence.

Ali Ehsan Rind, the Country Head of RDMC, expressed, "The local communities among whom we operate are invaluable stakeholders to us. In alignment with the Barrick philosophy, enhancing the quality of life for local communities is a goal we take seriously. Our partnership with the Indus Hospital Network demonstrates our dedication to delivering quality healthcare to our stakeholders in the district. This project was carefully chosen in consultation with the Par-e-Koh CDC, as local community representatives directly shape our social development program according to their needs."

Reko Diq, a world-class copper-gold mine in the making located in Chagai District of Balochistan province, Pakistan, is a significant project. Owned by Barrick, federal state-owned enterprises, and the Province of Balochistan, this project is set to contribute to Pakistan's economy, create jobs, foster regional economic growth, and invest in social development programs. The project aims to update feasibility studies, with the first production targeted for 2028, ensuring a transformative impact on the Balochistan province. Barrick's commitment to local employment and suppliers will positively affect the Chagai district's local population.
